Lecture: "Expressing the texture of 'milky skin'"
Lecturer: Hiroyuki Uchiro (Chief Curator, Pola Museum of Art)
Event Overview
Léonard Foujita (Tsuguharu Foujita, 1886-1968), known as a painter of the Ecole de Paris, was highly praised in the Paris art world in the 1920s for his unique technique of painting "milky skin." Many researchers have conducted research into the materials and techniques used in Foujita's works, but since his paintings have often been restored or varnished to protect the surface, it is impossible to gauge what kind of skin he was aiming to express.
In this lecture, we will reveal the secrets of Fujita's "milky skin" technique from the perspective of skin texture, based on the results of spectrofluorescence analysis of Nude with Dog on a Bed, which was conducted at the Pola Museum of Art in 2023 and was not coated with protective varnish.
